Southern Rehab & Sports Medicine is the proud winner of the third annual West Point Lake Dragon Boat Race!
The successful event was held recently at Pyne Road Park and featured 30 prominent community and corporate teams from the LaGrange area. The race also served as a fundraiser to benefit Harmony House in LaGrange. Harmony House provides emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling and education for victims of domestic violence.
“The dragon boat win was awesome!” said Dr. Josh McGinty. “This has quickly become a very fun but also very competitive event between friends and businesses in LaGrange, so we are riding high until next year!” he joked.
“Of course, we wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without the dedication and teamwork of our coworkers from all three locations, as well as their families,” Josh said. “In addition to being a team building event, it also feels really good to have raised over $40,000 for Harmony House.”
Dragon boat racing is now the eighth fastest-growing sport in the world and it’s easy to see why. It features teams of up to 20 in a 40-foot-long, colorful canoe paddling to the beat of an on-board drummer. It involves perfect timing and execution from all members paddling in unison. If they do, the dragon boat glides quickly across the water, making it a very visual sport. Plus, who doesn’t love hanging out at the lake on a summer day?
